A Message from the Principal

Reading Workshop

Yesterday, our very talented Leader of Pedagogy, Rebecca Hofman, presented a Parent Workshop on How Students Learn to Read.  It was well received by the parents attending and it was clear each parent learnt something new. Learning to read can be an easy task for some students and quite a complex task for others. I encourage you to build positive lines of communication between yourself and your child’s teacher because Parent Involvement is the NUMBER ONE predictor of early literacy success. There are many fun things you can do at home to support your child’s reading with the most important being reading with your child every day. If you love books and value reading your child will too! If you are concerned about your child’s reading progress please talk to your child’s teacher.

Attendance

I strongly encourage all families to aim for a high attendance rate for your children. As a school we strive for over 90% attendance for each student. Coming to school every school day will benefit your child’s academic and social success. If your child doesn’t want to come to school please talk to your child’s teacher as there are many strategies we can put in place to make arrival at school a smooth transition from home.

Of course, if your child is unwell and displaying COVID-19 symptoms he/she should stay at home.  We have a good supply of Rapid Antigen tests so if you would like some, just ring Kate Thompson and she will arrange to get them to you. We will continue to inform you if a COVID case is detected in your child’s class. The safety and wellbeing of our students is paramount at all times.

Principal’s Meeting

At the Principal's Meeting last week a new Diocesan Prayer was launched. This prayer was composed by a group of students from St Mary’s College in Gunnedah. Each student will bring home a copy of this prayer today; I encourage you to read this together as a family.

Have a wonderful week.
