Resource Centre

Library Orientation program

The Resource Centre has been a buzz with activity. It has been wonderful to see the new students getting to know the Resource Centre. All Year 7 and Year 8 students have completed their library orientation sessions and are now beginning their Reading Programs.

Year 7 students have been having fun Speed Dating Books. This lesson introduces the students to popular and new books in a variety of genres. In three minutes, they have to get to know a book and decide whether they would like to take the book out. They have all borrowed some great books and have been keen to share their reading experiences and recommend their favourite books to each other.

Year 7 Introduction to the Marian Resource Centre. On Monday the 13th of February, a few of the new Year 7 classes, including my homeroom, 7 Kildare, were introduced to our Resource Centre. Ms. Norello, one of the Teacher Librarians here at Marian, led this session. We learnt about the different sections of the Resource Centre, such as the Manga shelf and the non-fiction area. Then we split up into small groups of two or three and began a small scavenger hunt around the Resource Centre. Some activities on the list helped us learn to print, photocopy and scan, while others taught us about finding books on the computer. Overall, it was a very fun and enjoyable way to get to know our library, and I’m sure all my fellow Year 7's feel the same.  Alexis Tremoulis
