Feast of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne - 26th July 2018
Next Tuesday (24th July), we will be celebrating the contribution that Grandparents and special older and experienced persons make to our families and our children. The celebration coincides with the feast day of St. Joachim and St. Anne, which is recognized by the Church on July 26th. Joachim and Anne were the parents of Jesus’ mother, Mary.
We honour Mary’s parents, Joachim and Anne, as saints. Their love for one another and for Mary is an example to us of how God calls us to live. They also remind us to honour our own grandparents and to thank them for the blessings they have passed down to us in love.
We will be celebrating this event for our Grandparents and special people in our community, with a Prayer Liturgy and activities for grandparent and children in the classrooms, commencing at 9.15 a.m. This will be followed by morning tea.
"Grandparents are a family’s greatest treasure,
the founders of a loving legacy.
The greatest storytellers, the keepers of traditions that
linger on in cherished memory.
Grandparents are the family’s strong foundation.
Their very special love sets them apart.
Through happiness and sorrow, through their special
love and caring,
Grandparents keep a family close at heart." (Author unknown)
Celebrating the Eucharist
Over the next few weeks, we are planning and preparing for the Sacrament of Eucharist. We have a Eucharist family night organised for Wednesday 25th July at 7:00 pm for the children and their families making their First Eucharist this year. The Sacrament of First Eucharist will be celebrated in our Church on Sunday 5th August at 10:00 am. As a community, we ask you to think about and pray for our children at this special time in their faith journey, as they prepare for and receive the Eucharist.
As we prepare for the Sacrament of Eucharist, we share the Gospel stories of times when Jesus broke the bread: The Last Supper, and the Road to Emmaus.
“While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take and eat; this is my body.’
Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.’ ” (Matthew 26:26-29)
