Swimming Sports

House Carnival - Monday 4th March

What a wonderful day of swimming that was held on Monday of this week at the House Swimming Carnival. I was lucky enough to attend and watch the 50m freestyle relay events and it was wonderful to see the team unity and spirit shine through on the day. Thank you to Sports Coordinator John Fox, BRPS staff and parent volunteers who all contributed significantly to make this event such a success. Thanks also to the parents who came along to support all of their children, I'm sure you would have been impressed with the talent on display. Please see the sports page for further reports.

District Carnival - Thursday 7th March

We have a very talented group of swimmers and today the best performers from the House Sports competed in the Beachside District Swimming Carnival at MSAC. Early reports at the time of producing the newsletter are that our team is performing extremely well. A full report will be produced for the next newsletter.

Curriculum Day - Tuesday 12th March

Parents are reminded that this Tuesday 12th March is a Curriculum Day, and therefore student free. We will be conducting an onsite whole-of-staff professional learning day with a focus on school improvement and developing collaborative professionalism.

For your diary: Our fourth and final curriculum day for 2019 will be held on Friday May 3rd (Term 2, Week 2). We will join teachers and leaders from other schools in the Beachside network to focus on enhancing and enriching the Writing Curriculum as Communities of Practice across schools.

Running Colour & Welcome Picnic

We could not have asked for a better night for our Welcome Picnic and exciting new addition - the "Running Colour" event. It was wonderful to catch up with many families from across the school With comments from the students such as "this was the best school event ever", we can safely say that it was a hugely successful addition to our community calendar which we will hopefully see as an annual event.

Thank you to those students and families who so generously contributed sponsorship and donations to the event. Also to Jayne Timms and the parent committee for the enormous amount of planning and organisation that went into the event, as well as our wonderful staff who really got into the spirit of the day and ensured they were nearly as colourful as the students!

Fundraising Allocation - Eco-centre & working garden

This was our first fundraising event for the year with funds from this event contributing to an expanded garden area that will have strong links to curriculum areas across the school, particularly STEM and Inquiry-based learning, whilst also supporting an urban farming/agricultural program. We are excited to announce that planning is underway with Educational Landscape Designer Jenn Reed. We will be seeking community input into this exciting project as planning progresses.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Thank you to all families who took part in last week's P/T Interviews and student-led conferences.

The feedback from parents and teachers was most positive, helping to develop a stronger partnership between school and home.

2019 School Council Elections

Nominations for vacancies in all categories for election to membership of the 2019 Black Rock Primary School Council election have been received. In both the DET and parent member categories the number of nominations was equal to the number of vacancies. I therefore congratulate the following nominees on their election onto the Black Rock Primary School Council for 2019:

I would like thank each of the nominees for their interest in contributing to the school in such a significant way.

The first meeting of the newly elected School Council will take place on Monday 25 March. I look forward to working in partnership with the School Council to continue its strong governance and to help positively shape the future of Black Rock Primary School.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

The "Student Administration Reminders" page in this newsletter is an essential reference to support parents to navigate and manage important school processes.

Please take the time to read through the items on the following pages and contact the Office should you have any queries. However, this week I would particularly like to draw your attention to the following points:

It is very important to check the Compass News Feed and Calendar daily to stay informed of the latest news and upcoming events.
Absences MUST be reported via Compass on the day of absence (early in the morning or ahead of time where possible).
Online consent/payment for incursions and excursions must be received by the due date in order for your child to participate/attend.
Students must NOT be left alone in the school grounds before 8.45am or after 3.45pm.
The 'Kiss N Go' zone on Arkaringa Crescent is for dropping/collecting your child within a two-minute time frame.
Parents and students are NOT permitted to walk through staff car parks OR use them for parking.
Riding of scooters, bikes, skateboards etc., is NOT permitted in the school grounds at drop-off or pick-up (school and non-school children).
Please be aware of our dog policy which is outlined on signs at all entrance points to the school.
