Re Run  ICAS Results and Certificate Presentation

Congratulations to all students who participated in the 2019 ICAS assessments.  Results have been delivered for Digital Technologies, Spelling and Science (arrived as I write this), and certificates will be given to students on Monday morning after assembly. These certificates are particularly important for two reasons: (1) They recognise the success of students through a High Distinction to Participation award title; (2) they contain the login details for families to see specific results (on the back).

The following students have done particularly well, receiving a High Distinction or Distinction award, and will have their certificate presented to them on stage at assembly:

Digital Technologies

  • Addison Drummond (High Distinction)
  • Mithil Mali (Distinction)
  • Tamara Fanti Rivera (Distinction)

Spelling

  • Lachlan Mar ( High Distinction)
  • Pulastya Khajuria (Distinction)
  • Stephanie Forsyth (Distinction)
  • Carl Fitzgerald ( Distinction)
  • Jacob Tan (Distinction)

Science

  • Chloe Hughes (Distinction)
  • Tamara Fanti Rivera (Distinction)
  • Pulastya Khajuria (Distinction)

Congratulations to all of these students!

More results should be received throughout the next weeks and communications will be made accordingly.

Student Athletics News

A very big congratulations to Year 6 student, Lorne Hayes-Chen for his performance at the recent State Athletics Carnival.  Lorne competed in the triple jump and should be very proud of finishing 4th in the State! Everyone at ASPS is extremely proud of Lorne and his athletics achievements.

2019 NAPLAN Summary (Rerun from Week 4)

Congratulations to all of the students in years 3 and 5 that participated in this year's National Assessment Program. While we always stress that NAPLAN is only one assessment on one day of the year, we are particularly please with this year's results. We are particularly proud of these results as we have not had to compromise on what we value as a school, which is to provide students with a balanced education that prioritises the pursuit of academic excellence that is intertwined with a focus on wellbeing and the educational philosophy of the International Baccalaureate.

Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) Key Improvement Strategy: Continue to develop teacher understanding of how to develop students as writers through a Workshop Model that incorporates the 6+1 Traits of Writing.

The main AIP improvement strategy (that is most directly related to the recent NAPLAN results) relates to the school’s continued focus to improve our approach to the teaching of writing.

The 12 month target for Writing was to increase the percentage of students in Year 5 demonstrating High Relative Growth to at least 30%.

The school’s target for the Strategic Plan is to have achieved 40% High Relative Growth by 2021. It is important to note that this is a stretch target for the school and very few school’s are maintaining 40% High Relative Growth.

While we were not expecting such significant shifts in our NAPLAN data until 2020, this improvement in writing is reflected in both Year 3 and 5 results through increases in the number of students performing in the Top 2 performance bands (see below). As you can see in the tables below, our performance data is well above statistically similar schools, network schools in the Boroondara and Whitehorse and the State. The school's leadership team will continue to analyse these results (with the support of school council) as we look towards further growth in 2020.

In addition to the school's strong writing results, we are also very pleased with achievement and student growth (from year 3-5) shown across the Numeracy, Reading, Spelling and Grammar and Punctuation assessments.
