Que Hora Es?

Spanish is an integral part of the curriculum delivery at Newlands.

In Week 1 students were doing a recap on telling the time.

Que hora es? (What time is it).

Stationery

This year we have handed students their own stationery to care for.

They have been given a pencil case with pens/pencils/glue stick and a ruler. In addition they have been given their books and a timetable for term 1.

We believe in doing this student will be able to be 'Ready for Learning' and have the tools they need for each lesson.

Students who want to use their own pencil cases are more than welcome to do so,

Students are responsible for looking after their property.

SeeSaw

It is exciting times at Newlands, as you will be able to follow the activities and learning your student does at school though the SeeSaw app.

You will get login instructions this Friday.

SeeSaw is a learning journal of the student and doesn't replace Sentral.

You will still need to use Sentral for communication to teachers, school newsletter, absences  and permission forms (just to mention a few).

Sentral

Parent logins will be handed out Friday 7th February .

Sentral will be used as follows:

- Receive daily notices

- Responding to past absences

- Advise of future absences

- Amending family details

- Communication to homeroom teacher

- Permissions for Excursions

- Receiving student reports

- Booking Parent/Teacher interviews

- Accessing school documents and policies

Devices

A letter would have come home end of last year in regards to devices.

We are working towards a 1 to 1 learning space in the 4/5/6 area.

The 4/5/6 area works very closely with ICT to enhance all students learning and minimise the use of paper in our area.

Newlands operates on a BYOD (bring your own device) program. Laptops need to run a Windows operating system. Alternatively you are welcome to still bring an Ipad, please endeavour to have an external keyboard for your Ipad.

If you need more information, don't hesitate to contact your homeroom teacher through Sentral.

Camp

Week 5 is camp week.

Through Camp students will be building resilience and enacting the school values and keystones.

We are very excited to be going to camp early in the year so we can work on our independence, school spirit and further build relationships with our peers and teachers.

#throughrelationshipswebuildsuccess.

We will be sending out more information soon with what to bring and what to expect.

All About Me

We are getting to know our students.

Each student has been working on our Pop Art (hands). One hand is 'All About Me' the other is 'What I Love'.

We hope to have these up in the 4/5/6 area for viewing in the next few weeks.

Inquiry

This term we are focusing on Newlands Values and Keystones.

Students will be modeling and learning how to use the Inquiry Cycle and Independent Learner Matrix, in preparation for Genius Hour that will start in term 2.

This term there will be a big focus on creating things to put around the school to represent our Values and KeyStones.
