DRUMBEAT PROGRAM

Stage 2 and Stage 3 students are participating in the "Drumbeat Program",  beating rhythms together on African style djembe drums.

The Drumbeat program encourages listening skills, stimulates physical and neurological co-ordination and promotes concentration.  Students begin with simple drumming techniques and will progress into stable rhythms within their groups creating relationships, harmony and trust with the use of teamwork.

Students will also have the opportunity to perform as an individual or as a group dependent on their comfort level. All participating students are having a great time whilst enhancing their learning during our Drumbeat program.

Stage 1: Push and Pull Excursion

On Wednesday 6th March 2019, Stage 1 Green and Stage 1 Yellow went to the Highway Park as part of their science unit, Push and Pull.  The students walked from the school to the park and enjoyed some time at the park including their recess before walking back to school. They were able to identify the different equipment that they could push or pull, describing it as using a hard or soft force to move the equipment.

Some examples are:

  • "I push my friend down the slide."
  • "I pull the flying fox towards the pole."
  • "I push and pull the rope bridge from side to side."
  • "I can push myself on the swing, going faster and faster!"

PSSA State Knockout Cricket

On the 7th March 2019,  the Primary Boys Cricket Team travelled to Armidale to play Ben Venue Public School in the PSSA Knockout competition. Guyra Central won the coin toss and captain, Lincoln Brown chose to bat. Brendan Landsborough and Rave Brazier were our first batters and within a matter of minutes Rave was bowled out by the Ben Venue bowler, we went on to score 58 run with Tynan Bull achieving 10 of these runs and Darcey Heagney finishing not out.

It was Ben Venues turn to bat and Guyra Central School started off with strong  bowling. Brendan bowled so fiercely that he got two wickets and snapped the bail. Angus Dullaway, Aidan Brown, Tommy Ryan, Max Blyton, Jack Soraghan, Jason Mowbray and Toby Handebo were outstanding while fielding and were able to stop many Ben Venue balls from reaching the boundary. In the end, Ben Venue were too strong and came away with the win. Congratulations to  Tommy Ryan who  was identified as the players player from both teams and received a white kookaburra game shirt.

The Guyra Central School Cricket Team would like to thank our parents for driving us to the game and supporting us, Miss Fletcher, the Umpires and the scorers in particular Steph Cameron. We wish Ben Venue good luck in the next round.
