Principal's Report

School is back in full swing after a short week to begin the term. Term two and three are the busiest terms in a number of areas. Sickness for students and staff is greater in the cooler part of the year, and the demands academically step up as well. I hope we can all sail smoothly through the busy period ahead.
ANZAC Day
I was very proud of our students who participated in the ANZAC Day ceremony at the Cenotaph on ANZAC Day. Jessica Eldred and Kamali Lamba gave renditions of the Australian and New Zealand national anthem’s respectively. Ashlee Mann and Jacinda Mitchell placed our wreath on the cenotaph and Michaela Sykes recited an ode as part of the ceremony. I was also very proud to see so many students (past and present), and teachers who also attended the ceremony. It is
fitting that we pay tribute to those that gave their lives to protect our way of life, and enable us to live in a free country.
Camp Howqua
I returned this morning (Friday 3rd May) having spent the last two nights and the day in between at Camp Howqua with 44 x Year 7 students and 24 x Year 8 students. It was great to see the students attempting activities outside their comfort zone, and working as a team to ensure that all students made some progress. It is a great experience for all of the students, as they have the opportunity to work with students who may not be a part of their social circle, and to develop relationships outside the classroom with some of their teachers.
Shepparton Education Plan
In our last Newsletter, we included an outline of the transition plan for the next 2 (hopefully) to 3 years as we move towards the “one school -one site” at the Hawdon Street site. As part of the transition plan all Year 7’s in 2020 will be located at the Current McGuire College site. In the next two weeks the first stage of the transition (information sessions and school tours) for our 2020 Year 7 intake will begin. Full information regarding these sessions is included in this Newsletter. Transition for other Year levels will occur later in the year for all students who will be attending a new location.
