Puffing Billy

Inquiry 

To complement our Unit of Inquiry - 'Transport changes over time', in the last week of Term 2 the Year One students were treated to a trip on Puffing Billy. 

We arrived at Belgrave station nice and early, ready for a picnic recess on the platform. The train departed Belgrave and the children enjoyed an hour-long journey on the old steam train. 

The children were then split into two groups and rotated between two activities, with one group walking to the park for a picnic lunch and play, while the other group visited the new Lakeside Station Visitor Centre. 

We enjoyed watching an interactive presentation about the history of the first locomotive, followed by a hands-on, educator led workshop tied to our Unit of Inquiry.

Puffing Billy

Maths 

Maths sessions have kicked off with a lot of enthusiasm. The students have been immersed in an introduction to 3D shapes, starting by completing a fun rotation of hands-on activities.   

Mathseeds 

Similarly to Reading Eggs, we encourage each child to log into their Mathseeds account at least twice a week. Apart from weekly tasks set by their teacher, Mathseeds also offers various math games and activities for the children to access. These activities help to make learning maths fun!
