Sustainability News
The Sustainability Captains and the Marine Ambassadors did a great job hosting World Oceans Day on Thursday 8 June. The school was awash with a splash of blue, accompanied by Maddie T, our sustainability captain dressed as our resident jellyfish!
Students learned about the significance of 'World Ocean Day' and the role oceans play in everyday life. They are the planet's lungs, a significant source of food and medicine, and a critical part of the biosphere.
World Oceans Day aims to inform the world of the impact humans have on the ocean and develop solutions and preventative measures to encourage the world’s population to act in a sustainable manner to manage our oceans for future generations. The Year 2 students participated in a peer teaching lesson, run by the Year 6 Marine Ambassadors, learning all about the importance of caring for our oceans. The Year 1 and Prep students look forward to this in Term 3.
We were delighted to receive a grand total of $433 for World Oceans Day – congratulations and a big thank you to everyone who took part and donated. The money will be used for a sustainable project run by the Marine Ambassadors, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Dolphin Research Institute.
Make sure to check out our beautiful display wall by the front entrance of the school. It is a whole school display with every student’s artwork displayed, creating our very own ocean scene celebrating the day. Congratulations to the Art Captains and Sustainability captains in their work putting this together.
