Fantastic 3/4

Term 3 Week 1 2023

We hope this newsletter finds you well as we dive into an exciting and

eventful Term 3!

What have we been up to?

In literacy, we are excited to announce that Year 3 and 4 students will be diving into the captivating world of poetry. Students will explore various types of poetry, unlocking their creative expression and language skills. Each week, we will introduce a new form of poetry, such as haiku, shape, limerick poems, and more. By immersing themselves in these diverse poetic styles, students will develop a deeper understanding of rhythm, rhyme, imagery, and figurative language.

In Maths, we started the term understanding the properties of various shapes and how they relate to one another. We explored concepts such as faces, vertices, edges and symmetry and learned to identify and classify shapes based on their characteristics. In week 3 we will begin our learning on understanding strategies of multiplication and division.

This term in Science, students will be exploring chemical sciences. They will be introduced to everyday objects that undergo processes of melting, freezing, heating, and cooling, resulting in various shapes through moulding. By studying the properties of materials and how they undergo state changes under different conditions, students will gain insights into how materials scientists can develop products to enhance our quality of life. Furthermore, the exploration of how temperature affects solids and liquids will allow students to experience firsthand the transformations of items from their daily lives. Through engaging in hands-on investigations, they will deepen their understanding of these concepts.

This term in Inquiry, students will embark on a geography unit, exploring the causes, effects, and contributions of individuals that have brought about change. They will also explore the significance of events, symbols, and emblems that shape Australia's identity and diversity. Additionally, students will analyse the representation of places within and near Australia, examining the similarities, differences, and connections people have to these locations across various scales. Students will understand the vital role of rules and people's contributions to communities, they will develop their skills in formulating inquiries, locating, collecting, and recording information and data from diverse sources.

Finally, students in 3/4 A had a successful day filming for their movie directed by Bruce. The children looked great in their costumes and certainly knew how to act! We cannot wait to see the end product. 3-4 C
