VCE VM & TSC

Community Market
Thanks so much to everyone who helped to coordinate the sensational Winter Wonderland community market. We had a record number of stalls and are well and truly outgrowing G Block. The VCE VM stalls all donate 100% of their net profit to sponsor Anton and Krisna through Compassion and we are now able to sponsor another teenager from Indonesia, which is outrageously exciting. The VM stalls, along with the $10 fee for each stall and a generous donation from one of the primary stalls gives us the grand total of $554.05 going to Compassion. A special thanks go’s to Justin Mason for his tireless help setting up, problem solving and packing up the market.
Year 10 VM Cooking
The Year 10 students chose their favourite recipes to cook recently and did a great job creating muffins and chicken tenders. The students worked hard to prepare and cook delicious meals and learn invaluable life skills along the way.
Year 10 Sustainability
Applied learning students have been constructing nesting boxes to support our native birdlife around the North Campus dam and wetland area. They’re painting the outside of the boxes, add bark and branches to make them blend into the natural environment and internal structures to give chicks the ability to climb in and out of the boxes. The students will mount these on posts in the water next term once they’re ready to go.
Moonlit Sanctuary Koala Fodder Garden
Our Years 11 & 12 VCE VM (VCAL) students worked with Geoff and Chris from the Moonlit Sanctuary to plant 147 eucalypts on the Peninsula Link boundary of the north campus. Moonlit own the trees, which are specific species the Koalas will eat and prepared the soil for planting.
Our students helped plant, mulch and install tree guards and will water them coming into summer. The goal is for the trees to be periodically harvested (coppiced) once they’re large enough to provide a long-term food supply for the sanctuaries Koalas. I’m very excited about this community partnership and hope to grow this in the future. A massive thanks goes to Justin Mason for helping coordinate this project and for the school leadership team for allowing us to focus on sustainability for God’s creation.
Pantry Plus Community Gardens
The Year 11 VCE VM (VCAL) students have been working with the multi-talented Ben Kelly to design and build community gardens for the Peninsula City Church’s Pantry Plus program. They will complete construction early in Term 3 and will add soil and compost before planting crops. The idea is that Pantry Plus clients will be able to harvest and grow their own nutritious vegetables in these garden beds. Our students will then maintain and expand the program into 2024. Thanks so much to Ben for guiding construction and to Deb and Deb from Pantry Plus for working with our students.

Years 8-11 Pathways Expo
On Thursday 20 July from 4pm-7pm on North Campus we will be running our annual Subject Pathways Expo for all students entering Years 9-12 in 2024. This will be a great opportunity for students and parents to learn more about subjects offered at Bayside prior to their subject selection interviews.
