Prep News

Last week our grade prep students participated in the Market Fresh incursion. Here our students learnt how fruit and vegetables are grown, cared for and delivered to supermarkets and markets all around the country.

All the preps were given the opportunity to taste a variety of Victorian grown fruits and vegetables. We tasted carrots, apples, celery, oranges, bananas and a whole lot more. Some of the students discovered new favourites, including the delicious avocado dip!

At the end of the session, each student received an activity book which included colouring pages, word searches, information about fruits and vegetables plus many yummy recipes to explore over the school holidays!

Prep Buddies

This week, Prep MW met with their buddies in 5/6L to create a collaborative ‘proud cloud’. Both little and big buddies worked together to discuss things they are proud of at school. It was great for everyone to hear and celebrate all their accomplishments.

Here are some of the things our buddies are proud of:

“I am proud of Mackenzie’s handwriting.” - Sienna

“I am proud of going to this school” - Jordan

“I am proud of learning about numbers” - Lucy

“I am proud of Luke for learning to do the monkey bars” - Max

“We are proud of all the ticks Ava has gotten this year” - Emily and Zoe

“I am proud that I play soccer” - Fionn

We finished our buddy session with a picnic on the oval. Thank you 5/6L, the preps are very eager for their next buddy session!

Year 3 News

As part of our BQT the Year 3 students were given the task of designing a solution to an everyday problem. The students worked in groups across the classes by collaborating and working through the design process.

Some of the designs included:

Problem: Cats wee and poo on your carpet

Solution: This carpet sucks up the bad stuff and soaks it into the carpet. At the same time cleans it so its not yellow. It then goes into the sewer.

Finley, Ana, Maddie

Problem: When you lose Wifi signal.

Solution:  A device that gives you endless wifi and charges your device at the same time. It is a portable Wifi and charger in one.

Alicia, Helena, Penny, Merehana

Problem: When your legs and shoes get wet from stepping in a puddle.

Solution: Pocket sized dryer that you wear around your neck and you use it to dry yourself. It also has different heat settings.

Emma, Indie, Mihika

Problem: Dog hair needs brushing but you just can’t do it or you don’t have enough food

Solution: The Doggy Day care kit!

This has a brush, which gets rid of the hair on its own, has food, toys, leash. Very simple to use.

Milla R, Milla W, Indy, Alexi

Problem: Do you hate waiting in line for food?

Solution:  A special conveyer belt that delivers food straight to your table. Order through the device at the table, goes to the chef and the chef sends it straight out to you on a conveyor belt

Ella, Oliver S, Henri F, Seb

Problem: When you lose stuff at school.

Solution:  Multi use tracker. This device can literally track anything. You will never lose anything again!

Rayan, Phoenix, Bivon

Tessellations

The Year 3 students have also been looking at shapes that tessellate. The students were given the task to find what shapes tessellate, they explored single shapes and multiple shapes to see what worked.

Year 4 News

This term as part of the Year 4 Big Question Time on Design Technologies, students explored how technology can be used to meet the needs of individuals, all with different bodies. We were lucky to be part of the pilot program created by Free3D Hands, a not-for-profit organisation who design and supply 3D printed prosthetics for individuals with limb differences for free, with Dr Loz of SciencePLay.

Students task was to identify how objects could be made more accessible to people with limb differences (or with arthritis, cerebral palsy, motor skill challenges etc). Each child brainstormed an idea, sketched their design, and then build a prototype. The brief was that the prototype needed to be a product that could be used as an assistive device. Children developed a range of products to assist people with arthritis and other limb differences, such as no thumbs.

We are extremely grateful to Dr Loz for letting our school test the program! It was an amazing opportunity and lots of FUN!!!
