Weekly Friday Assemblies

Our weekly school assemblies are an important event not only to share information on the happenings and upcoming school events but it also an important symbolic time for the school to come together. To cater for the requirements of as many of the students, parents and families as possible, the school aims to alternate each week a face-to-face live assembly with an online assembly every other week.

The virtual or online assembly allows for the senior students to make short video clips of events and activities around the school and present them to the school community via an online platform. Parents’, Grandparents and other family members are also able to join us online from whenever they may be that day be this at work, in the country or occasionally we have relatives logging on from overseas. Parents are informed of the virtual assembly via Compass with an accompanying link to the online event.

The face-to-face assemblies are conducted on the school oval where all staff, students and visitors can comfortably and safely come along and join in on the event. On the days when it is unsuitable to conduct an outdoor assembly due to inclement weather, the school will divide up into a P-2 assembly in the MPR building and the Yr.3-6 students and teachers to the school gym.

The assemblies are hosted by our very talented School Captains, begin at 2.45pm on a Friday and parents and families are most welcome to attend. A timetable of the type of assembly to be conducted (face to face or virtual) are included in the diary events section of the newsletter and the Compass Calendar.

Respectful Relationships (RR) VIP Morning Tea

This week was a very special week as we had our Respectful Relationships VIP Morning Tea. Our RR Leaders have been very busy this term, keeping their eyes out for students in the yard who have been making positive choices (which align with our school values), to receive a ‘Gotcha Card.’ The students then place their Gotcha Card in a box at the office. At the end of each fortnight, approximately four winners (Gotcha card names) are drawn from the box during our whole school assembly. These children are then invited to a VIP morning tea at the end of the term to celebrate their wonderful efforts and exemplary behaviour. This term’s morning tea was held in the staffroom and hosted by David and Carly. Please enjoy photos of some of our VIPs.

JSC Casual Dress Day Food Drive for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC)

The JSC are very excited to announce that next term we will be having a Casual Clothes Day Food Drive on Thursday 3rd of August. Instead of donating a gold coin, we would love for you to bring some canned foods. Of course, it is totally voluntary as to whether you bring in canned food or not. The ASRC Foodbank currently provides free groceries to around 600 people every fortnight, most that have no income and no work rights. Around half of them are children, so we thought this was an important and worthy cause for our school to focus on. Next term we will have a list of items we are after, so stay tuned 😊

The Great Kindness Challenge Continues

The JSC are very excited to announce that we are starting a new initiative called ‘The Great Kindness Challenge.’

This challenge provides educators and students with the tools, opportunity, and encouragement to actively create a positive, respectful, and inclusive community for all.

This program was initially created to encourage students to actively promote kindness, to make schools and the world a better place in general for everybody’s benefit. We have given every class a poster of suggestions of how to show kindness in a variety of ways. We hope that even after this challenge ends, everybody will continue their acts of kindness, and be able to fill somebody’s bucket every day 😊
