We wish Ms Laura Couch all the best for her upcoming Maternity Leave. Laura will finish up this Friday and we are sure all the students and parents join us in wishing Laura all the best as she embarks on this exciting chapter of motherhood. Mrs Wendy Gonsalves will be taking over the Prep class in Laura’s absence.
Parents will be given a link to a digital copy of their child’s Semester One Report in the last week of this term. In 2022 the school transitioned to the new report format, to ensure parents were given a broad overview of their child’s progress. Feedback from parents was that this new format was both comprehensive and easy to read.
Your child’s progress in Religion, English and Mathematics will be measured against the achievement standards of the Victorian Curriculum. These marks are supported by a comprehensive overview of your child’s skills in the areas of English and Mathematics. Families will also be given an opportunity to view their child’s progress in the area of Personal & Social Capabilities.
We recommend that you download and store the report in a safe place for future reference, as it may be required during transition to secondary school or should you move to another primary school.
St John’s is hosting two pre-service teachers who are currently studying at Australian Catholic University (ACU). Aleks and Mitchell will be with us until the end of the term, working in the Year 2 and Year 6 Learning Spaces. We particularly thank Mrs Karen Milkovic and Mr Zac Lane for mentoring Aleks and Mitchell as they complete their teaching round.
We ask families to keep Mrs Kelly Davies our Indonesian Teacher in your prayers. Kelly will be taking some time off over the coming semester to recover from surgery.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) occurs each year from 27 May to 3 June. It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Schools complete the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) every year. It counts the number of students who receive additional adjustments or “help” at school because of a disability. The NCCD helps governments and schools plan for the needs of students with a disability. For further information click on the link NCCD Information Sheet. NCCD Information Sheet
The school continues our partnership with Subway providing students with an opportunity to receive a ‘lunch order’, that families have ordered and paid for online, prior to the day. Our next Subway Lunch Day Friday 16th June.

What Should Parents Know about Tiktok?
TikTok can be a kid-friendly experience if you supervise your kids, use safety settings, and stick to songs you already know. But TikTok's emphasis on popular music means many videos include swearing and sexual lyrics, which may not be age-appropriate for kids to use on their own.
How Can Parents Monitor TikTok?
TikTok has “Digital Wellbeing” tools for all accounts that set daily screen time and limit certain videos with Restricted Mode, which TikTok says “limits content that may not be appropriate for some viewers.” Go to Settings and Privacy > Digital Wellbeing to access the tools.
View Online Safety Hub - TikTok Article
After this week the school will move into the next phase of our online safety initiative. With real time alerts now active through our Linewize Monitor system, concerning online behaviour by students when at school will be immediately flagged to the leadership team. These alerts monitor students at risk of self-harm, depression, grooming, sexual content, bullying, school violence and other threats in real time.
To support parents in navigating this ever-changing online space, we now have access to our own Online Safety Parent Hub. At St John’s we believe parents need tools, support, and education to take an active role in their child's digital development. The Parent Area provides a wealth of online safety resources - such as digital parenting guides, app reviews and articles - developed by our team of leading digital safety and wellbeing experts. Plus, access to free parental control tools to help keep children safe while using their personal devices.
The hub empowers parents to take an active role in teaching their children about online safety.
Content on the hub is constantly updated and added to so parents should try to get into the habit of visiting this regularly especially as new online social media platforms and games are released.
The Parent Online Safety Hub is accessible to all our school parents using this link.
