Grade 5 and 6

NAIDOC WEEK

This year’s NAIDOC Week theme was, ‘For Our Elders.’ Our students engaged with the theme by learning about what an elder means to First Nations communities, exploring Bobbi Lockyer's poster for 2023 and learning about a variety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders. They researched and read about these elders to understand why they were an elder and the contributions they have made to their peoples. The elders students learnt about included Auntry Dr Naomi Mayers, William Tilmouth, Aunty Dr Matilda House-Williams, Leonara Adidi, Adhi Ephraim Bani OAM, Uncle Archie Roach, Aunty Beryl Van-Oploo, William Cooper and more.  Students also listened to stories told by elders, considering the lessons that were being passed on.

🗳️ POWER - TERM 2 CBL

To bring together our learning about our Australian Government through our ‘Big Idea’ of Power we held a mock election. Students had the experience of voting using the preferential voting system, after working through a campaign to help them understand the democratic processes Australia enacts when electing leaders. They held election jobs, such as a party member, press member, AEU worker, vote counter, pollster and more, and demonstrated their power of being an Australian citizen. They enjoyed voting for their leader and of course, enjoying a democracy sausage.

WHAT A KNIGHT - PRODUCTION

Our Grade 5 and 6 students have been busily preparing for their upcoming production, ‘What a Night.’ Our main characters have been rehearsing their lines and fine tuning their acting skills, and all students have been learning their songs and dances. It is going to be an amazing performance where we will see so many of our students shine!

Students will be performing on Monday 14th August and Tuesday 15th August. If you are yet to purchase tickets, please use this link to access seats:
