Dear Parents and Carers

Congratulations to students, staff, and parents for your commitment to St Joseph’s over the last 6 months.  It has been a delight to return from leave to find a thriving Catholic school community.

Students have begun the term engaged in their learning and faith. On return from leave, I am struck by how much children have grown - both physically and academically.

A very sincere thank you to the staff, led by Mr Moore and Mr Aguilera, who continued not only the day-to-day management of the school but the implementation of the school’s annual improvement plan.

In reading through all of the newsletters for Term 2, I particularly note the contribution of parents and carers to the life of the school and your engagement in your child/ren’s learning. This is highly valued and makes a difference in student learning outcomes and their wellbeing.

The little things matter!

Most often, respect is shown in the small things that matter. This week I have seen that respect in students:

  • arriving looking their best in their school uniform
  • greeting other students and staff by saying hello
  • being ready for learning
  • keenly following school routines and procedures
  • listening carefully
  • speaking kind words
  • being in the right place at the right time
  • being the best person they can be

Getting the little things right reduces problems and stress for all students. It takes a team effort to support this and the expectations of all parents in these ‘little things’ is very much appreciated.  Thank you.

New! Family Matters

“The most precious gift we can offer others is our presence. When mindfulness embraces those we love, they bloom like flowers.” ―Thich Nhat Hanh

This week I invite families to view the new Family Matters page in this newsletter. This week it includes an article, from Dr Justin Coulson's Happy Families website, titled Are You A Good Listener?  It is written by Rachel Samson an Australian-based Clinical Psychologist and Family Consultant with a passion for supporting parents to develop healthy parent-child relationships that promote optimal child development.

Next week's newsletter will provide each family with access to the St Joseph's school subscription to Happy Families. This will be a very useful resource that you can use to support your family with the day-to-day challenges you face in our contemporary world.

For all things at St Joseph's, we give thanks.

How does my child receive a Principal's Award?

Class teachers nominate students for Blue Merit Awards and are presented at the weekly assembly.  When five Blue Merit Awards have been received, students send them to the school office to be recorded and are then eligible for a Principal’s Award. When students attain their 4th Principal Award, they are awarded a Principal’s Medallion at an assembly. End of Term awards can be included as part of the 5 awards.
