Education in Faith

First Eucharist
Last Saturday (17/6) a number of our Year 4 students received the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time at the 6.00pm Mass in the OHR Church. These OHR students were be joined by a number of children who do not attend OHR but are from the parish. This was the last of these Masses this year and so we congratulate all the students who have made this important step in their faith journey.

A snapshot of RE Learning in Prep HW
We are learning about the birth of Moses. We are listening to stories from the bible and thinking about how we can connect these stories to our lives today. We know that baby Moses was safe floating down the river Nile. We are beginning to understand that God protects and loves us too.
Here are a few of our wonderings after listening to the story.
How did the mother of Moses feel as she placed him in the basket?
Why did the princess rescue the baby from the basket?
Who really saved Moses?
What would happen if the basket tipped over?
Please talk to your child about their birth. Maybe there is a Moses basket somewhere in your house.
A prayer to pray together.
Loving God.
Thank you for Moses.
Thank you for being there for Moses and protecting him.
May you be there for us and protect us always.
Amen
See the images below of our own Moses baskets in the reeds of the river Nile.
Sunday Gospel
The liturgy of the Catholic Church provides a framework for reflection which is used by Catholics throughout the world. Each week in the Newsletter, you will find the Sunday Gospel as well as some discussion questions to have with your child/ren.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew
Jesus instructed the Twelve as follows: ‘Do not be afraid. For everything that is now covered will be uncovered, and everything now hidden will be made clear. What I say to you in the dark, tell in the daylight; what you hear in whispers, proclaim from the house-tops.
‘Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; fear him rather who can destroy both body and soul in hell. Can you not buy two sparrows for a penny? And yet not one falls to the ground without your Father knowing. Why, every hair on your head has been counted. So there is no need to be afraid; you are worth more than hundreds of sparrows.
‘So if anyone declares himself for me in the presence of men, I will declare myself for him in the presence of my Father in heaven. But the one who disowns me in the presence of men, I will disown in the presence of my Father in heaven.’
