A Message from the Principal

Mrs Pauline Long

Dear Parents and Carers,

Spelling Bee

Last Thursday all the students in Stage 3 participated in a Spelling Bee. In Round 1 the students wrote 20 of the list words; Rounds 2 & 3 students were required to write the words correctly and know the meaning of the words. Round 4 was the buzzer challenge where the students needed speed to respond to the buzzer and then orally spell the word. In Round 5 the students with the highest scores were chosen to spell words orally from the most difficult list! Congratulations to our finalists: Clancy Flett, Brandan Thompson, Chase Slade, Jack Morris, Hayley Rheinberger, Ella Jamieson, Jack Bennett and Charles Lee. Mrs Meade also chose two students for a consistent effort award; well done to Clancy Flett and Jai Billingham. Our Spelling Bee Champion for 2021 was Charles Lee; which was a tremendous effort as Charles is a Year 5 student. Congratulations Charles!

Visit from Eloura Residents

This morning the students welcomed residents from Eloura Nursing Home. One of the residents, Glen Rampton, played the keyboard and the students and visitors sang along to some good old favourites! Our students presented hand made Easter cards to our special visitors. Thank you to Colleen Wills for coordinating the visit and for spoiling our students with delicious cupcakes, Easter eggs for the boys and each girl received a scrunchie made by the residents. It is important for our students to be a part of the local community and realise they can make a difference and brighten someone's day.

Thank you!

As term 1 draws to a close I would like to acknowledge the many people who make our school community so special:

  • thanks to all our staff for their tireless efforts to make St Joey’s a real place of learning for the students where each student is valued, cared for and respected;
  • thanks to our students for trying hard in your school work and looking out for each other;
  • thanks to our parents and carers for supporting your children in their learning.

Together we can achieve great things!

Don’t forget our Easter Hat Parade tomorrow Wednesday 31st March at 2.30pm (students will parade along the front path of the school) followed by the drawing of the Easter Raffle and the collection of hot cross buns.

During the holidays I encourage you to view our Art Competition Winning entries which will be placed in the Riley's Menswear shop window. Thank you to Mrs Hofman for introducing this event to our school and I look forward to this becoming an annual event.

Mrs Amanda Mondy will take a period of maternity leave starting at the beginning of term 2. We wish Amanda and her husband Paul all the best as they await the arrival of their second child. We look forward to having Amanda return to our staff in 2022.

May the blessings of the Lord guide you, protect you and be with you this Easter.
