NAPLAN 2018

Outstanding NAPLAN results

The 2018 NAPLAN results have now been released.  All Year 7 and Year 9 parents can collect their child's individualised report and an accompanying letter at the Parent-Student-Teacher Conversations on Wednesday this week, or from the front office at any time until Friday 14 September.  If you are not able to collect them, we will mail them to you after this date.

The NAPLAN tests are helpful in providing an overall snapshot of how the students are progressing. The snapshot tells us that Northcote’s Yr 7 and Yr 9 groups over the last five years achieve (in all NAPLAN test areas of Numeracy, Reading, Writing, Spelling Grammar and Punctuation):

- Well above the Australian average

- Well above the Victorian average

- At consistently the same levels as demographically similar schools.

Of particular note are the following points:

  • Consistent high level of relative growth for our Year 7 students from Year 5 across all test areas Reading, Spelling, Numeracy and Grammar and Punctuation.
  • High level of relative growth for our Year 9 students from Year 7 across the test areas of Reading, Writing and Spelling.

Northcote High School is committed to performing consistently better than the expected level of similar schools which is why we have developed our Instructional Framework and have introduced Professional Learning Communities to develop our staff in the use of high impact instructional strategies, and we have implemented the Northcote Model at Year 9 and 10 to renew our curriculum.  Our staff will use the NAPLAN data over the coming months as part of our ongoing evaluation of student progress and curriculum design and implementation.
