Year 9s visit Melbourne University’s Harry Brookes Allen Museum of Anatomy and Pathology
As part of the subject “The Science of Art”, some twenty students were granted the magnificent opportunity to visit Melbourne University’s Harry Brookes Allen Museum of Anatomy and Pathology. This visit was enjoyable and interesting, and seeing real human body parts and other specimens helped us learn how to realistically visualise human anatomy.
Being the first school group to attend this museum was an honour. Melbourne University offered up an insightful curator named Rohan, who explained the processes involved in preparing the specimens for display. The museum was liberal with their specimens as well, allowing us to examine and interact with several (pre-prepared) human body parts, including lungs and a head. We spent our time at the museum drawing and examining, and the trip was highly engaging and entertaining.
Thank you to Ms. Metcalf for helping to organise this unique trip!

More than 70 students chose to attend the Islamic Museum in Thornbury on Thursday August 16th, as part of their Connect Global Citizenship studies. Students were guided through multiple galleries showcasing the traditions, creations and beliefs of the Islamic Faith. We were also lucky enough to be given an insight into the life of Sherene Hassan, the director of the museum, through a personal presentation. Students are congratulated on their impeccable behaviour, and thanks go to all attending NHS teachers and the volunteers from the museum.
