Celebrating Science

Students Celebrated National Science Week at Northcote High School
Northcote High School celebrated National Science Week from 13 to 17 August. The theme for National Science Week was ‘Game Changers and Change Makers’ and focussed on the scientists, engineers, technologists, mathematicians, designers and innovators of the past and present.
Epic phases of science, technology and innovation have, in the twenty-first century, enabled a dynamic era of science, technology, and innovation to evolve… one where human knowledge is doubling every ten years, where more scientific knowledge has been created than in all of human history, and where computer power is doubling every year. Today there are many scientists, technologists, researchers, engineers and mathematicians, laying the foundations for the twenty-second century. Many of them are opening up new vistas and avenues for game-changing discoveries and ideas.
There was a high level of enthusiasm from students with some students winning prizes such as weather stations. Students were involved in many activities which included discovering ways to improve their learning, making David Attenborough impersonations, modelling earthquake resistant structures and discovering new chemical materials.
