VTAC reminder

Many of our Year 12s have registered for VTAC. The reminders below should help to keep everyone on track:

  • We encourage ALL Year 12s to register and enter a preference by Sep 27.
  • If you KNOW you wish to proceed with an application, pay now!
  • If you are unsure, calendar the payment date – and pay before then if you wish to proceed.
  • SEAS and scholarship applications close on Oct 12.
  • SEAS and scholarship applications can only be accessed AFTER entering at least one preference.
  • Preferences can be changed between now and mid-December (check dates relevant to you).
  • EXCEPTIONS to the above statement include any course for which early deadlines apply – sometimes, these are courses that simply close early, but more often they are courses for which there are additional selection requirements, such as auditions, folio presentations, interviews, selection tasks, external tests, etc.
  • Make sure you look for these additional requirements, calendar them, and DO them.
  • Look for additional scholarships not administered by VTAC. Follow any instructions given on the uni website if you wish to apply.
  • Remember to consider pathways and alternatives, even if your first preference feels like it is within reach. Everyone needs at least a Plan B, if not a few more letters of the alphabet!
  • Remember to use the resources and links posted on myNorthcoteHigh.
  • If you need help, work through your resources in this order – online (VTAC & uni), tutor, careers practitioner (make an appointment via myNorthcoteHigh)
  • Reminder of where to find everything: https://schoolbox.nhs.vic.edu.au/homepage/5296
  • And remember that VTAC and the unis always have the last word – ALWAYS check your information back at the original source.

Ready Set Design workshops

Now in its seventh year, Ready Set Design is a series of three workshops for students in Years 11 and 12 where they can learn about careers and tertiary programs in design, develop their folio, and practice their interview and presentation skills.

Registrations are now open for workshop 3 (Interview Bytes), which will be held on Monday 24 September at RMIT’s City campus.

The Interview Bytes workshop will give students the opportunity to hear from a panel of RMIT design teachers and current students about what to expect during a program interview. The panel will share their experience as interviewers and interviewees, and discuss the kinds of questions students may be asked, as well as some techniques for presenting their folio to the interview panel.

Visit the event page to register attendance.

La Trobe opportunities for Year 11 students

La Trobe are holding a range of workshops under the banner ‘Choose Clever’ – which will give students the chance to take a deeper look at a range of La Trobe courses before VTAC timely applications close on 27 September.

Open to Year 12s and their parents, along with Year 11s (especially those considering VCE Plus extension studies next year), each session will include the chance to hear from a current student and alumni working within the industry, as well as the chance to participate in a hands-on workshop. These are designed to get students actively thinking about the area of study and the doors it could open.

These workshops will appeal to students who are seeking final confirmation about what to study next year, as well as those who are struggling to choose between different disciplines.
