Mr Liam Beatty
In the past few weeks, I have had the pleasure of speaking with prospective families about our College. Each of these occasions has afforded me with the opportunity to reflect on what has stood out in my first term at Marist College Ashgrove. One thing I kept coming back to was the fact that all our students love being here. This was yet again on full display in the torrential rain on Saturday morning, as hundreds of our Primary students took part in rugby and football trials with smiles on their faces. The sense of pride and belonging that the boys have in their school is to be admired, and certainly creates a fantastic environment for them to learn and reach their personal best.
Please keep Michael Connolly (Primary Pastoral Leader) and his family in your prayers, after the passing of his beloved father Terry Connolly over the weekend. May Terry rest in the palm of God’s hand in eternal life.
This week our Year 6 students are visiting Parliament House as part of their studies in Humanities and Social Sciences. This has been a great opportunity for the boys and to consolidate their learning in a real-world context. Our classes that visited today were fortunate enough to see Question Time live from the viewing balcony.
Thanks again to all families for their generous donations to our Easter Raffle. Tickets for the raffle are now on sale for $2.00 for 1 or $5.00 for 3, they can be purchased from the Captains who will be walking around the College during 1st break.
You would have received an e-mail regarding the College’s Parent Teacher Interviews that will run on Monday 19 April (in person) and Wednesday 28 April (online). This is an important occasion for you to meet with your son’s teacher and discuss their learning after Term 1. Please note, our Primary Parent Teacher Interviews are for parents and teachers only. Boys may be invited to join this process in Term 4.
The boys are to be commended on how they have handled the wet weather in recent weeks, particularly at break times. To assist with staying dry, students are more than welcome to bring an umbrella to school with their name on it.
Next Thursday 1 April, we will come together for our Primary end of term assembly. At this assembly, we will acknowledge students across Year 5 and Year 6 with Love of Work and Men of Courage Awards. This will also be the occasion that we present our 2021 Primary Student Leaders with their badges. Due to Covid restrictions, only parents of these students will be invited to attend.
We are continuing to remind boys about the presentation of their uniform. It is also a good opportunity for us to speak to them about the expectations of the winter uniform for the commencement of Term 2. All boys are also expected to return to school in Term 2 with an appropriate haircut.
I am looking forward to attending the Year 5 Musical ‘Dig it’ this Thursday evening in the Draney Theatre. Many thanks to Andrew Butt and the rest of the Music department for all their hard work in preparing the boys for what I’m sure will be a great event.
Excitement is in the air as students prepare for the Primary Swimming Carnival this Friday 26 March. As this event was not run last year, this will be a first for all of the students in the Primary School. More information about the carnival can be found in the Sport Update.
