Design Tech
Year 7 Design Technology
The Year 7 students have worked on a Straw Bridge Challenge where they work collaboratively to see which team can build the bridge that will hold the most weight. They learnt about different types of bridge structures and looked at some real-life examples. The constraints that they had to work within relate to the amount of materials available, the distance to span, and there is to be no attaching the bridge to the table.
Year 8 Elective – Retro Metal
Students have been making a copper bowl, using the techniques of annealing to soften the metal, sinking where they hammer it into a mould, planishing and stamping to decorate the surface. Enamel powder was then added to the surface and it was baked on in a kiln.
Year 10 Product Design & Technology (Wood)
The Year 10 students have studied the historical design styles Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Memphis and Steam Punk. When working on the design of their cabinet, they were asked to incorporate elements of one of these styles. Production of the cabinets has started where the students are learning to safely use a biscuit cutter and a router.
