Principal's Report

May 2021

Welcome back to Term 2.

Pauline Barker is absent due to recent knee replacement surgery and will be away for the rest of Term 2 to recover. During her absence, I will be Acting Principal and Rose Thomson will take on my Assistant Principal role. Congratulations to Lisa Dunne who will be the other Assistant Principal for the rest of Term 2 (starting May 10th). We wish Pauline a speedy recovery and look forward to her return in Term 3, no doubt with a spring in her step.

We finally managed to have our annual Athletics Carnival on the 26th April, the event was, as usual, run extremely well by Kathy Berg. A big thank you to all the staff that attended on the day and helped to manage the program events like clockwork (also well done to Plenty for winning the day).

The year 7 Orientation Camp ran last week and by all account, students had a great time getting to know each other and their teachers. A big thank you to all the teachers that attended the 3-day camp and the school leaders who helped to run the activities.

Greensborough College Sports Precinct and Stage 2 Building Program

We are still on target for the Sporting Precinct to be fully open and in use in May.  The official opening was planned for week 4 but was delayed due to reasons beyond our control. A new date has not yet been set however we are having the official handover meeting will be next week.

Stage 2 of the rebuild is coming along in leaps and bounds with all 3 slabs being poured, the Library and General Purpose Classrooms frames are up. Every day I arrive at work, I see new changes, which is very exciting. It is expected that the 3 buildings will be completed in late October and we will be utilising these spaces from 2022.

Throughout the term will continue to post updates via our social media platforms of the progress of the building project.

Education week

This year’s Education Week will run from 23-29 May with the theme ‘Building Connections’.

Now in its 77th year, Education Week aims to positively profile and celebrate the strengths and achievements of Victoria’s government education sector. The theme celebrates the connections between schools and local communities and strengthens bonds with families and carers. Education Week is an opportunity for all primary and secondary schools, higher education and early childhood services to showcase how they are building connections with the community around them.

We are hosting an open day for the Greensborough College Sporting Precinct on the 22nd May 10-1pm. This will give the local community a chance to have a look at the new sporting facilities that are part of the College.

Curriculum Day change

Due to the NAPLAN date change we had to cancel our scheduled Curriculum day which was scheduled for 12th May.  We are asking School Council to approve a date change to the 25th May. These days are important in our work on our school improvement journey.

NAPLAN

This week our students in Years 7 and 9 sat the NAPLAN tests. These national test results provide information on how your child is progressing and performing in the key areas of literacy and numeracy and also help to support improvements in teaching which can benefit your child. Results will be sent to schools between mid-August to mid-September. All students who sat the NAPLAN will receive individual reports, which will be sent to families.  Our school will use the NAPLAN data to inform our teaching practices and to plan for curriculum delivery. Our teachers also work with other achievement data sets including On Demand English and Maths test results and common assessment task results, to plan for differentiated teaching and learning.

School Council

School Councils play a vital role in Victorian Government schools, being a member of the School Council can be a rewarding experience. Working as a team, council representatives support the Principal in providing the best educational outcomes for all our students.

Each councillor brings their own valuable life skills and knowledge to their role. Councillors participate in developing the broad direction and vision for the school, interpreting data or financial statements, and understanding legislative and policy requirements.
