Interesting fact: Musically trained children's ability to control their responses is one of the most important factors contributing to their improved academic performance - Dr Anita Collins

WELCOME

This term we have welcomed Mrs Lauren Gerner who has joined the Instrumental Music Teaching Team as a second vocal teacher. This means that we are now able to support more students who want to have vocal lessons.

MUSIC FUNDRAISING

This year, our music department has an allocated leader for music fundraising, and our first goal will be raising $5000 for a Marimba.

What is a marimba, you may ask? A marimba is a member of the tuned percussion family.

We are raising funds for this as it is crucial for our percussionists to have an instrument large enough to practice basic techniques such as four mallets, where you play two mallets in each hand! At the moment, our percussionists are learning these techniques on the school xylophone, which has its limitations due to the smaller size.

We have a growing number of percussionists wanting to be some of the first students at EMC to do VCE Music Performance on percussion, so having access to a marimba in their lessons and practice time is essential to perfect their pieces.

We have many events in the works in order to achieve our goals, and to have some fun with the EMC community along the way. Stay tuned for these events which are coming soon!
