EMC Green Team

EMC Green Team Update

The EMC Green Team is run by a group of students with a passion for the environment and making EMC a more sustainable school.

We began meeting at the end of Term 1 and now meet every second Tuesday during lunch. Our teams current focus is reducing the amount of waste the school creates. Working with Hands on Learning we have began creating a worm farm and which will be used to break down the organic waste in the school. Students will play an active role in the design of bins and signage, the role out of the bins and help educate other students about how worm farms work.

EMC is also excited to announce it will be running Environmental Science units 1 and 2 in 2022. This subject is getting off the ground due to the passion shown for the environment from students and staff.

EMC has also applied for a grant through Landcare Australia to rejuvenate the farm area. If this grant is successful students will plant trees around the dam increasing the plant and animal biodiversity.

If students are interested in EMC’s Green Team and want more information they can contact Wayne Sandlant at wayne.sandlant@education.vic.gov.au

Joining the Green team will allow students to participate in a variety of activities including excursions whilst giving students a chance to play a big role in how the school can meet its sustainability goals.
