2021 Student Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS)

We value student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction and are conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of your school.

The AtoSS is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist your child’s school to gain an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, bullying and life in general.

There are also some questions about student health and wellbeing. Understanding health and wellbeing needs are important to support students to learn and thrive at school. The Department is providing this addition to the core survey to allow your child’s school to capture this information to support students.

Students will be asked about resilience, family relationships, community connections, health (including mental health), access to health services and physical activity.

This year, the AtoSS will be conducted at your school over the period 17th to 28th May 2021.

The attached letter below is to inform you of the 2021 AtoSS that your child is invited to participate in.

Bullying Prevention

Doncaster Secondary College recognises that all people should be able to work, learn, interact and socialise in an environment that is free from harassment.

We're committed to providing a safe and respectful learning environment where bullying will not be tolerated.

Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm.

Bullying prevention at Doncaster Secondary College is proactive and is supported by research that indicates that a whole school, a multifaceted approach is the most effective way to prevent and address bullying.

Our ability to effectively reduce and eliminate bullying behaviour is greatly affected by students and/or parents and carers reporting concerning behaviour as soon as possible.

We encourage students to speak to their DiSCovery teacher and/or Year Level Coordinator or any trusted member of staff including teachers, wellbeing staff, social workers etc if they see bullying occur.

Parents or carers who develop concerns that their child is involved in, or has witnessed bullying behaviour at Doncaster Secondary College should contact the Year Level Coordinator immediately.

Year Level Coordinators are responsible for investigating allegations of bullying in a timely and sensitive manner. When we have sufficient information to understand the circumstances of the alleged bullying and the students involved, a number of strategies will be implemented to address the behaviour and support affected students.

It is important to understand that serious bullying, including serious cyberbullying, is a criminal offence and may be referred to Victoria Police. For more information, do some research into Brodie’s Law.

Our College motto is 'Working together, learning together' which we do through celebrating our differences. We provide care and compassion for every person in our community and have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to bullying and workplace harassment.
