Buildings and Grounds Report

The school holidays brought about a flurry of works around the school which are part of our program to repair, replace or update a number of items around the school that were placed on hold due to COVID-19 last year.  These include the $50,000 solar panel grant which saw 120 solar panels placed on the roof of the school to generate electricity in an environmentally friendly way, whilst also reducing costs to the school.  This is a significant contribution to the school from the Victorian Government and one for which we are very grateful.

The holidays also saw a number of trip hazards in the concrete removed and replaced with new concrete making the paths much safer for everyone. Unfortunately as part of this, we did have to remove a number of trees near the exit gate of the staff car park to avoid this reoccurring. To offset this, we have plans to plant a large number of trees over the coming years around the oval and other parts of the school.

A further project over the holidays was the removal of three concrete water tanks from the oval which had become dilapidated and beyond repair. These were demolished, removed and back filled with topsoil. The pump from these has been kept and will be put to good use watering the trees soon to be planted around the oval to provide greater shade in years to come and make our oval area look even more impressive than it already does.

Those who use before or after school care will notice the new carpeting, which commenced over the Christmas holidays, has also been completed. With updated TheirCare signage and improved lighting along to the path to the OSH entry, this will make for a safer and more appealing entrance to our school.

Finally, a major project commenced however not finished yet, is the refurbishment of the portable building at the school used by DET Regional staff. This building will be completely updated on the outside with new down pipes and box gutters, new plinth boards, upgraded lighting, slip strips, handrails, a thorough paint and the installation of garden beds to beautify what had become a dark and unattractive part of our school.

A very big thank you to the facilities team for making this happen.
