Around The Primary

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Term 2 everyone!

I hope you and your family managed to spend some quality time together over the holidays and that your children return to us well rested, happy, healthy and keen to embark on the next eleven weeks of learning and fun with peers, staff and families!

From all accounts, the students have had a great start to the term. Our message to the students is to keep on working hard and to make the most of all learning opportunities.

Teachers have spent much time planning and preparing for the term ahead and we are all looking forward to supporting your child to achieve their personal best in all areas of school life.

We Remember

Our Year 3-6 students respectfully attended the ANZAC Day assembly today on the Chapel Lawn.

This heartfelt poem was written by Alyssa Mignacca in 6B.

The bullets that flew, the blood that rained
The song of cries of those, pained
By loss, by grief, by tragedy, by woe
Red poppies began to grow

Over east we see the bright red wall
Endless names of brave soldiers, one and all

From fathers torn from their children young
Taken to a battle that might not be won
By enemies, by allies, by Death and his oil black crows
Red poppies began to grow

Over east we see the bright red wall
Endless names of brave soldiers, one and all

People’s lives burnt to the ground
Treasured people, never to be found
By fire, by smoke, by ash falling like snow,
Red poppies began to grow

Over east we see the bright red wall
Endless names of brave soldiers, one and all

Soldiers weep over friends lost
Why must freedom come at such cost?
By wounds, by death, by heartbreaking letters sent home,
Red poppies began to grow

Over east we see the bright red wall
Endless names of brave soldiers, one and all

Bodies buried, treaties signed
The winter turns spring, evil to kind
By violence, by destruction, by explosions putting on a show
From this, red poppies have grown

Over east we see the bright red wall
Endless names of brave soldiers, one and all

Year 6 Leaders

This week the Year 6 students received their leadership badges and have been seen wearing them with pride. Below are some reflections from our Year 6 Leaders:

Our badges are a symbol that we are there to support others if they are ever in need. When receiving our badges, we discussed qualities of a good leader, such as being able to listen to others, showing courage and being a good role model to younger students in the primary school. We look to God to help us and guide us in all that we do, to lead in the primary school by setting a great example for others to follow. We want to follow God’s example.

Anashe Marerwa 6G

We are all leaders, with or without a badge.  We are trying to be the best role models we can be. Being a leader means being helpful, kind, organised and honest. It has been great fun to be with our Year 1 buddies, they make us laugh and we hope to see them more!

Lydia Defrancesco & Sasha Watt 6G

Being a Year 6 leader comes with many responsibilities which will help us improve our leadership skills and will also be rewarding, knowing we are being positive role models for the younger students. I am looking forward to helping contribute to the carnivals and events throughout Term 2 and planning fun activities with our Year 1 buddies.

Samuel Dale 6B

I am enjoying being a leader of the primary school and being a good role model. The Year 6 students have committed to new jobs around the school this term, helping us to become more independent and accountable. I am proud that I am part of the sustainability committee and I am excited to help with recycling in the primary school and organising the ‘Nude Food’ day.

Introducing the Seasons for Growth Program, helping children learn to live with change and loss

Change and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives. Recognising that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce and related circumstances, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively.

Seasons for Growth is facilitated in small groups over 8 weeks and is based on research which highlights the importance of social support and the need the practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss. The program focuses on issues such as self-esteem, managing feelings, problem-solving, decision-making, effective communication and support networks.   Please see attached brochure about the program.

As an accredited facilitator, I am excited to be able to offer this very successful, evidenced based education program to students in Year 1-3 this term.  If you would like to have a chat about the program or would like some more information, please ring me on 9383 0469 at school on Monday to Wednesday and Thursday mornings or email  anne.murphy@cewa.edu.au.
