Report

Welcome back to all students to Term 1. I trust all students and their families had a restful break and enjoyed some great weather over the summer holidays.  It is wonderful to have all students onsite and we sincerely hope it stays that way.

Upstander Launch 

We have updated and made modifications to our expected Behaviour Matrix, one of the changes we made is under Our Value or being Responsible and included ‘I will be an upstander’.  On Tuesday during our HUDDLE time we launched “How to be and upstander” to our Whole School Assembly. 

An upstander is a person who speaks or acts in support of an individual or cause, particularly someone who intervenes on behalf of a person being bullied.

 Or

Someone who takes action against bullying behaviour. When an upstander sees someone being bullied, they do something about it. They help to stop the bullying from happening, or they support the person who's being bullied.

We think we have a fairly safe school here at Wedderburn College but we know some bullying does take place. We want to empower our student voice and if students see an unwanted behaviour, not to be a bystander but an upstander and prevent the unwanted behaviour.  Bullying will stop 85% of the time within 10 seconds if the bystander becomes an Upstander in a non-threatening way.

Uniform

Excellent start to all students with the wearing of their school uniform, it has been very pleasing. During Term 1 and 4 students are required to wear hats during break times and that the only hats allowed are navy broad brim or buckets hats with a school logo.

School Calendar

Will be available possibly Week 4.  It has been delayed due to the VCAA not releasing the VCE Semester dates and Exam dates – they were released this week which enables us to complete the calendar.
