Arlington Events

Welcome

To the first edition of the Arlington Argus for Term Three. We hope you enjoy reading about the learning that our children are engaged in, and the events that have been happening.

Plastic Free July

Plastic Free July is now over, but our community really got behind this initiative with a tip of the hat to our Sustainability and Library committees. As always, thank you.

Plastic Free

Morning Tea Thursday 20 July:

Thank you to the lovely Arlington Parents who prepared a morning tea for our team to support Plastic Free July. As you can see, it was so appreciated.

Plastic Free Bag Making in the Library Friday 28 July:

Thank you to the parent volunteers who helped the children to make bags from old t-shirts as another plastic free initiative.

Transition Activities for our Biggies

Year 10 Personal Projects: Friday 21 July:

The Peppercorn children spent a morning at Blackhall Kalimna to view the Year 10 Personal Projects; these are the culmination of the Middle Years Programme learning journey, and it was an impressive collection.

The children  were also invited to view the artworks on display in the art spaces. The opportunity to spend time at Blackhall Kalimna helps our Biggies see themselves there, with many remarking that Blackhall Kalimna was amazing.

100 Days of Prep

Our Lighthouse Keepers are 100 school days old already, and to celebrate, they enjoyed a shared lunch in the Front Garden, games and a treasure hunt which ended with a Piñata.

Basketball Clinics with Ben Crowe

We were fortunate to have Ben Crowe from the Camberwell District Basketball Association Inc run Basketball Clinics for the children in Loft Room, Sunroom and Peppercorns. And while the secondary students, at Blackhall Kalimna, were enjoying Camp Week, we were able to enjoy their full sized basketball court we call "The Cage".

Term Three Electives

The children have chosen, and our Term Three Electives are underway with offerings: Fencing, Film Appreciation, Survival Skills, Let's put on a Show, Japaneasy, Soccer, Programming, Puppetry and Digi-Tech. It will be a short program with our Mid Term Break and Anthology Week interrupting two Fridays.

Mid-Term Break

There will be no school on Friday 18 August as we enjoy a little mid-term rest.

Anthology Week

On Monday 21 August we'll open our annual Anthology Week, a week of creative writing and expression held in the Kevin Borland Hall.

You can read all about how we are preparing for Anthology 2023 through a multi-age Unit of Inquiry under the theme How We Express Ourselves in this issue. Our children are inquiring and preparing workshops for their peers as part of this week long celebration.

Again Anthology coincides with the Children's Book Council of Australia's (CBCA) Book Week, with lead up activities being planned by our wonderful Library Committee, and the Library will be open each afternoon in the week leading into Anthology - 14 -17 August.

On Friday 25 August, children will be invited to dress as their favourite character from a book. As always, we ask that children refrain from dressing in a way that might worry our youngest community members, and refrain from wearing a mask or face covering.

Celebration of Learning Tuesday 29 August

We encourage you to Save the Date for our Semester Two Celebration of Learning. This will be an opportunity to peek behind the curtain of Anthology Week, and parents will be invited to discover all about the Inquiry the children participated in framed by the theme:  How we Express Ourselves.  You can read all about it in this issue.

PYP Open Schools Fortnight

Team Arlington is delighted to open our classroom doors to PYP educators from across Melbourne  as part of the Open Schools event. We will invite our fellow educators to visit during Anthology Week, so showcase our multi-age inquiry units, and our special Anthology tradition.
