HEADSTART
HEADSTART is a program designed to help students begin an
apprenticeship or traineeship while you’re still at school
- HEADSTART lets you start learning skills for an apprenticeship or traineeship early – while still making sure that you get the real-life knowledge that employers need by completing your VCE or VCAL.
- We have over 44 VET apprenticeship or traineeship programs on offer through HEADSTART.
- When you finish school, you will have your VCE or VCAL, as well as already having commenced your working in your chosen career - giving you a head start on everyone else.
- HEADSTART provides you with one-on-one support at school, with your training provider, and with your employer. We’re your mentor and coach to assist you to succeed!
Depending on what your employer needs, you’ll go to school some days, TAFE some days and to work on other days. Usually, you will undertake paid employment for:
- one day per week in Year 10
- two days per week in Year 11
- up to three days per week paid in Year 12
- As a HEADSTART student, you can also work during the school holidays.
You must have a clear career goal and be ready to work, demonstrate maturity and commitment, and be able to juggle school, studying an apprenticeship or traineeship VET course, and working.
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
