Principal

From Ms Allison

As we come to the end of this unique and often challenging school year, I would like to take a few words to say thank you. Thank you to all our teaching and educational support staff who pulled together to help our students and our families, and each other. Your commitment to our students and delivery of quality instruction is amazing. This work could not have been done without you.

To everyone within RSC, thank you for your willingness to change direction at almost a moment’s notice. We pulled together to completely rethink the way we do education. Your daily messages to students, school communications, videos, online excursions including virtual streaming of our award ceremonies and all the other out-of-the-box ideas helped keep our students connected to school.

Who will ever forget ‘Swimming Sports’ on the oval?

We faced our challenges with courage and resilience, and I am grateful for that strength. We have continued to be brave, strong, and worked even smarter than ever. Our learning has deepened and created the resilience needed for individual growth. We have learnt to pivot in multifaceted ways to help strengthen us.

Congratulations and thank you to our students for their continued perseverance and displayed resilience in overcoming many challenges. Their strength and determination have been truly inspirational and gave us strength to move forward and take on new challenges. These actions are measures of great character, and our students should be very proud of their achievements.

Performing Arts completed the year in fine form with the senior musical production ‘Grease’ successfully completing a series of excellent performances that showcased our talented staff and students. I would also like to also congratulate the music staff and music ensembles who performed in fine tune at the evening concert on the College oval. It was a brilliant evening that displayed such talent and demonstrated our student’s ability to manage rehearsals and continue their music program throughout remote and flexible learning.

I hope you enjoyed the opportunity to view the live stream presentation ceremonies that acknowledged the hard work and fine achievements of our Years 7-10 students who received academic, sporting, performing art, visual arts, and service awards. Our current Year 11 and high performing Year 12 students will be presented with their awards early in 2022.

Congratulations to our 2021 Year 12 VCE and VCAL cohort for their perseverance and tenacity to achieve fine outcomes that included 24 students achieving ATAR’s over 90, and 8 students with ATAR’s of over 95.  I am very proud to announce that Julia Rooney-Watson is our College Dux, achieving an ATAR of 98.40. Congratulations Julia!

Another highlight is the achievement by Year 11 student Kaila Bergmann of a perfect study score (50) in Visual Communication Design (VCD). Kaila’s VCD folio has also been shortlisted for VCAA Seasons of Excellence (Top Designs). Congratulations Kaila!

At the end of the year, we usually say goodbye to several staff members as they leave for retirement or other school placements. Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the long-term contributions of five teaching staff members: Helen Doherty, Karen Gouldthorpe, Kim Hughes, Sally Sonsie and Pauline Templeton. I wish them all a happy, healthy retirement and thank them all for their wonderful, dedicated years of service to our college.

Secondly, to Megan Alba, James Barut, Lynna Gong, Natalie Kosnar, Melissa Muller, Samantha Potter, Lily Potter, and Jessica Wilson, who are moving on to other opportunities or new schools, thank you for your fine contribution to education.

Well, we have made it to the end of the year and encouraging signs ahead indicate that 2022 will be a year of regeneration for all. May you have a very Merry Christmas, a safe and happy holiday full of love, joy, and hope. Enjoy this joyful, very special time with your loved ones and friends.
