TERM 2

Centenary OPEN DAY

A big thank you to everyone who was involved in our Centenary Open Day on Saturday May 18.

We had a large number of staff and students who did a wonderful job in making it a day to remember. There were many activities on offer throughout the day including; Steamworks demonstrations, Reptile House visits, face painting, sausage sizzling, bake stall, tours and devonshire teas.

The rooms were decorated with photos and documents from each of the decades and the Key Learning areas putting on both static and active displays.

Our new mural was a centre piece of discussion, it was prepared by artist, Owen Abrahams  with historian Lynda Carroll assisting with the gathering of information from each of the decades.  Ed Sauzier completed the final part of the mural with the printing and installation.

We had many alumni in attendance including, Joan and Ivan Ferguson, who met at Lilydale High in 1943.  Their photo is on the front page of this newsletter.

North Eastern Region Instrumental Music Concert

Nine of our Instrumental Music students performed at Hamer Hall last week as part of the NEVR Music Concert.

Instrumental Music teacher, Bronwyn Ventura and Amy Cumming who heads up the Instrumental Music program with Jacki Goode, attended the event and reported that our students had a wonderful experience and represented LHS superbly.

A big thank you to the students, Bronwyn, Amy and the parents who supported the event.

Reconciliation Week

Last week, Leah Shields, Head of Humanities and some of our students and student leadership team led a number of activities to celebrate Reconciliation Week.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved.

The flag raising ceremony, basket weaving, face painting, music, essay writing and information that was shared contributed to a week of rich activities.

Athlete Development Program students – Thank you!

On a rainy day last week, our ADP students ventured out to assist a local primary school with their cross country event.  I have received reports that our students were supportive and displayed incredible empathy for the young students who were out in the elements.

Thank you for your care of others and for representing LHS in such a positive manner.

Mobile Phone Policy

Over the years we have maintained the 'Mobile Phone Policy' that bans the use of phones whilst at school. Our focus is on learning and social interactions without the use of phones.

In the case of emergencies, staff must be able to discharge their duty of care according to department guidelines i.e;

'Whilst students are at school they are in the care of school staff, when there is an issue or emergency at school it is incumbent upon staff to be able to deal with it'.

This is sometimes difficult when students directly contact parents rather than speaking with Coordinators who are always happy to call parents for the student concerned.

Please don’t encourage your child to contact you during school hours – any student who is in need of assistance for any reason, must report to the Sub School Offices. In the case of medical issues, students must report to Sick Bay.

Thank you for your assistance with this in advance.

School Uniform

Students are required to wear correct school uniform every day, including travelling to and from Lilydale High School.

School Uniform Policy is determined by School Council and reviewed on a regular basis.

Reminders;

The only jacket that can be worn in place of the school jumper or windcheater is the LHS weatherproof jacket.  Jumpers with hoods are not allowed.

NO FACIAL JEWELLERY IS PERMITTED to be worn by students during the school day.

If students wear an item out of uniform, they must endeavour to wear something as close as possible to replace the item.

A note signed by a parent/guardian must be provided to obtain an out of uniform pass from either a Year Level Coordinator, Home Group Teacher or Year Level Sub School Assistant.

The support of parents/guardians in relation to uniform would be greatly appreciated in delivering a high standard of appearance for students.

All  school uniform requirements are available through LOWES, Lilydale.
