Grease

Farewell to Grease

A little over a year ago, once the 2017 College production of The Sunny South had concluded its season, plans begun to be drawn up for the musical production of 2018. Many ideas for a show were discussed by the key production team of Ms Loreta Murphy – Director, Ms Carolyn Sutherland - Choreographer, Ms Laura Matthews – Costume Design, Mr Lucas Carlson – Lighting and Sound Design and myself as Producer – but we couldn’t forgo the opportunity to try our hand at a tried and true favourite and by late June GREASE was the word.

At our first Information Session, outlining our plans for the show, over 180 students from St Bede’s College, Kilbreda College and Mentone Girls’ Grammar School turned up to hear our ideas. Just over a 100 auditioned for character roles and eventually 65 students performed onstage, ably supported by a student crew of 15 with supervising teachers pushing the company total to 90. Over 1500 tickets for GREASE were sold over five shows, making this production the best ticketed presentation of a St Bede’s College musical ever.

On behalf of the production team, both cast and crew I would like to thank the school communities of St Bede’s College, Kilbreda College and Mentone Girls’ Grammar School for supporting us in this endeavour by coming to see the show. Special mention should go to the families of all the cast and crew, students and staff alike who provided the encouragement, love and support for us to do our best in showcasing the creative talents of the students of all three schools.

We look forward to seeing you again at our next show in 2019 and the years beyond.
