Fisher Newsletter Term 2

MovingTowards Independence

With classroom agreements firmly established in the Fisher learning areas there is an expectation that all students will work with commitment, effort and positive attitudes. Students are guided to work accountably on tasks to assist them in becoming independent learners. These targeted activities are planned as a result of regular assessment and are designed to encourage speedy progress in areas of need for each individual. We expect students to do their part in the learning process to gain the best possible outcomes. Our team is continuing to work in partnership with you and your child to build a successful and positive year for your child. We look forward to speaking with you again during the student-led meetings later this term.

Reports

Written reports will be sent home on Friday 19th June. Students will continue to be assessed against the A-E criteria however the reports will show the word equivalent recorded: Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Partial and Minimal. Reports will be followed by student-led meetings in Weeks 9 and 10. Students will be able to share their learning and reflections at a meeting with both their teacher and parents present. The meeting takes the form of a presentation by the student followed by a conversation between the student, their parents and their teacher. This approach gives students an opportunity to share with their parents their growth as a learner. They demonstrate accountability and responsibility for their progress and achievement, share their future learning goals and provide evidence of their development as independent learners.

High School Transition

Our Year 7 students were required to return their Application for Enrolment in Year 8 (ED176) to Ms Martin today, Friday, 15th May. It is vital these forms be returned on Monday if you have not already done so. The district office will review all forms over the next few months and allocate students to a high school. Once the high schools have been notified, they will send out Transition Information Packages to students. This will take place late in August.

2015-Aim High

Many Year 7 students approached their first High Flyer certificate with great enthusiasm and commitment. We were pleased with the quality of evidence presented through many of the folders and the high number of students striving to achieve their Term 1 High Flyer.

Whilst achieving the High Flyer certificate is certainly the goal, it is believed that the learning experience holds greater value - both immediately and in the future. If your child did not achieve a Term One High Flyer Award, we hope they are considering working towards the Term Two certificate.

NAPLAN

Testing of Literacy and Numeracy for the Year 5s and 7s has taken place over this week. This testing is a snapshot of your child’s overall achievement on the day. The best use of the data that comes from NAPLAN is for whole school analysis and pattern identification as assessment also occurs on a daily basis in a variety of ways. Students are encouraged to be responsible and more involved with their own learning through the use of learning intentions, success criteria, feedback and goal setting.

Hats

Students are not required to wear their school hats during Recess, Lunch and PE times throughout Terms 2 and 3.  However, they may be needed when students go on excursions.
