Maths

Year 8 Maths

This term has been an exciting one for Year 8 Maths with the introduction of Mr Lawrence.

Students have been working hard throughout the term covering topics within Statistics, Probability, Financial Maths and Real Number.  They have learnt about calculating mean, median, mode and range to calculating the probabilities of different outcomes, and calculating the ‘best buys’ within a given scenario.

This term Year 8 students had to develop their own Probability Game. In this assignment, they had to create a board game or a game that could be played at a carnival, amusement park or casino.  They could not use a game that already exists but they could use the elements of that game to make a new one. The students enjoyed this task and found it fun to use maths in a different way. They developed their game over the entire length of the probability unit which was to ensure that students were taught those skills to implement into their probability game.

Some of the highlights from the students are below:

“I found this project really fun because of the creating and putting it altogether”

Marie Silich

“I really enjoyed this project as I had a chance to use Maths and be creative. I could create whatever game that I wanted”
