Assistant Principal's Report

Student Assessment & Reports

Students will receive their end of semester report on the last day of Term 2.

Student reports provide students, teachers and parents/carers with a clear and concise picture of a student’s achievement and progress at a point in time. Teachers make informed and consistent decisions about student progress against the Victorian Curriculum achievement standards (Years 7-10) or VCE/VCAL outcomes (Year 11 & 12). Teachers use a variety of assessments and observations to inform their judgement.

I encourage parents/carers to read the report and have a discussion with your child. It is great to read the positives in the report on what your child has achieved. It is also important to looks for ways to improve and make the most of the educational opportunities. Students are encouraged to set goals for the remainder of the year.

A reminder that all Year 10 students who are on Work Experience this week will have their reports posted home.

The Victorian Curriculum is structured as a single developmental learning continuum and is organised by levels not years of schooling. The curriculum consists of Towards Foundation Levels A to D and Levels Foundation to 10. All curriculum areas have achievement standards, describing what students are able to understand and do.

All students are able to progress along the learning continuum at their own rate and from their own starting point. Students are taught at the level that suits their needs, rather than just the year level and age group they are in. Teachers provide learning opportunities to support the learning for all students, including those students with additional learning needs or a disability.

Homestay Visit

We are having some visitors from our sister school - Taicang Senior High School.

We are looking for families to accommodate these students while they are visiting. Their stay will be for six nights in August beginning Saturday 4 August and departing Friday morning 10 August 2018.

This is a great opportunity to host someone from another culture and learn a little bit about another place and at the same time share the Australian culture.

If you are able to assist us with this, could you please contact the General Office on 9765 4100 or email me kni@scoresbysc.vic.edu.au

Early Dismissal

Students will be dismissed on Friday 29 June at 2:30pm. Periods 1-4 will run at normal times; however period 5 will be shortened to accommodate the early dismissal. College reports for students will be distributed on Friday 29 June just prior to early dismissal at 2.30 pm for the term break.

Information Nights

Planning for 2019 has begun. To ensure parents are well informed we will be holding Information Nights early Term 3. Please see the dates below:

Year 11 and 12, 2019 (current Year 10 and Year 11 students) – Tuesday 24 July

Year 9 and 10,  2019 (current Year 8 and Year 9 students) – Tuesday 7 August

Please be aware that subject selection forms will be due shortly after the information nights. As with previous years, students will be required to submit $100 towards the materials cost of the subjects they select.

Primary School Visits

Over the last few weeks I’ve had the pleasure in visiting some of our local primary schools. The purpose of these visits was to deliver prizes to students who won the Open Night passport competition. It was a highlight seeing the students react to their prize.

International Student

During the term we said goodbye to one of our International Students – Ya Peng Gong. Although Ya Peng was only here for a short time he was able to settle in well and make some friends. His inclusion into our community also benefits our students as it allows them to learn more about other cultures. We wish Ya Peng all the best for the future and we may see him return to Australia soon.
