FRANCE 2020

  • Would you like to indulge your senses?
  • Admire some art?
  • Make some history?
  • Speak some French?

Paris in the springtime of 2020 may be for you!

We are in the process of finalising quotes and details for the 2020 trip to France.   At this stage, we anticipate that the trip will take place at the end of Term 1, 2020 running through the first term holidays.    As a guide, the approximate cost will be $3,000.

The trip is open to all students in Years 10 to 12.   The focus of the trip is language, culture, art and history.

We have an established relationship with a sister school in the north of France, where the students will spend most of the trip, staying with a host family, attending school and a range of other excursions.  Prior to this we will spend 4 days exploring Paris.

While dates, costs and itinerary are still to be finalised, we are seeking expressions of interest for next year’s trip.

Please record your expression of interest, including student’s name and Home Group and parent contact details via email:

HOST FAMILIES WANTED FOR FEBRUARY 2020

The French are coming back!

Les Français sont de retour!

In February / March 2020, Lilydale High School will be hosting a group of students visiting Australia as part of our partner school exchange program with Lycée Darchicourt in Hénin-Beaumont in the region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais in northern France.

Expressions of interest are being sought from Lilydale High families who would be willing to host a student during their visit.  This would involve providing meals and accommodation and activities for the student on the weekend.

Dates are yet to be confirmed, but host families will meet the students at LHS on the day of the French students' arrival in Melbourne. They will leave from Lilydale High School on the morning of their departure and be taken to the airport by bus for their departure. Thus, no transfer to and from Melbourne airport is required by host families.

The group will consist of girls and boys who are in Year 10-12, as Darchicourt is a senior high school.  If possible, we would like to match each student with a host of the same gender and similar age, although this is not essential.

The visiting students will not require a room of their own, but can share with their host sister or brother, and should be treated to a normal Australian family experience while here.

Host families will need to supply recess and lunch for their student when at school and for the days when they go on excursions.

A complete itinerary will be provided to host families, which will show that the French students will have a mix of excursions together with days when they will be following their host student’s school timetable.  The school excursions include visits to places such as Healesville Sanctuary, the Shrine of Remembrance, ACMI, and Old Melbourne Gaol.

Any person over the age of 18 years, normally living in the house, will require a Working With Children permit. This is available free to volunteers and can be applied for online at;

https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/individuals/applicants/how-to-apply

and then lodged at a Post Office. You will need to take a passport sized photograph and proof of identity documents.

This is a wonderful opportunity for your son or daughter to get to know a student from another country and to learn something about their culture.

If you are interested in hosting a student, please contact Kelly Farrell at the school via email: farrell.kelly.k@edumail.vic.gov.au

Merci,

Kelly Farrell
