SAPSASA Knock Out Netball

On Friday the 15th of June, ten year 6/7 students who form the school knockout netball team went to West Lakes Shore Primary School to participate in a ‘double-header’ day of netball, marking both rounds one and two of the competition. Largs Bay started the day with a fierce battle against West Lakes Shore. It was a competitive game with many lead changes, which made it a great match to watch. After a poor third quarter, we were down by two at the final break before making a major comeback, spearheaded by some exceptional turnovers, to eventually win the match by seven goals.

After a recess break, we took the court again to verse Woodville Gardens. The rain held off as we played but the windy conditions and wet court made for a difficult match. Our experience showed on the court, as we came out clear winners. In both matches, Holly P, Holly T and Maddie were on fire in offence, while Isabella (co-captain), Charley (co-captain) and Klaudia were persistent and skilled in defence. Lily, Milla, Amelie and Caitlin ran hard and moved well throughout the midcourt. The girls worked exceptionally hard in both games and showed growth as a team as the day progressed.

We now move on to the third round of the competition, which will see us verse Nazareth on their home court later this term.

Thanks to Jayne Wright for coaching the team.

Match one: Largs Bay defeated West Lakes Shore (27 - 20)

Match two: Largs Bay defeated Woodville Gardens (30 - 1)

SAPSASA Knock Out Football

On Tuesday 19th of June the school football team made up of year 6/7 boys played our second round game in the 2018 SAPSASA Knock Out Football competition. Our opponents were Grange Primary School and we played at their school oval. Grange had the advantage of playing together each week in Saturday inter school football. Our lads played some fantastic footy at times in an exciting game that had many lead changes. Cheered on by a large and vocal crowd at recess time, Grange finished stronger in the final quarter to record a 10 point win.

The entire team gave it their best effort and showed persistence until the final siren.

Grange Primary 5.14-44 defeated Largs Bay 5.4-34

Thanks to Mr Burge for his efforts coaching the boys.

WESTERN TACKLE RUGBY LEAGUE CARNIVAL

On Tuesday June 5th we had three teams compete in a Rugby League Carnival at Ocean View College, they were made up of Year 6 and 7 students. The teams were able to transfer the skills learnt during touch football in PE last term and add the tackling element of Rugby League.

I was very proud of the performance of both the boys and girls teams. The girls made it to the Grand Final after winning 4 out 5 preliminary matches. They played Pooraka Primary in the decider and battled fiercely for the entire game, going down 38 - 18.

The two boy’s teams were in separate pools and both played some excellent rugby league. The A team had some solid wins on the way to finishing in 3rd place. Team B made it to the plate final which they won, giving them 5th place overall.

The bravery shown by some of the boys was incredible as some opponents were significantly larger and stronger, yet our boys still attempted to tackle them.

Well done to the 30 young athletes who represented the school so well.
