OSH CLUB

Program update:
- Please notify OSHClub if anyone else other than parent/guardian/emergency contacts are picking your child up from our service. It is our policy to ensure we don’t let the child go home with anyone other than people listed on the enrolment, unless given permission.
- A reminder that if your child attends the program and requires medication, that we must have it signed into the program. No Ventolin or Epi-pen means that your child will not be able to attend.
- If you have any old games, dress ups or books that you were thinking about throwing out, then please bring them in as they could be beneficial to the program.
- We have recently purchased new resources for the program! The children have loved using the kinetic sand and new board games.
- If your child has requested an activity to you, we would love to put it in the planner. Please let one of the friendly staff members know!
- Do you need child care throughout the holidays? St Peters primary school is 5 minutes from Huntingdale PS and they run an OSHClub HP with fun themes each day! Please ask for further details.
HEALTHY EATING:
As children grow and develop it is important to ensure they are being fed nutritious food. If your child eats a variety of meals from each of the 5 food groups, their bodies will receive all the nutrients and vitamins it needs to function. Sometimes it’s easy to pack their lunch box full of discretionary choice because these are the snacks that your child asks for and are also significantly cheaper, but please be wary of these as they contain high amounts of Sugar and saturated fat which can be detrimental to their physical and mental state.
So how do we change a child’s perception on healthy food?
We need to encourage kids to eat a wide variety of foods, first and foremost, it is important to be a role model yourself. As adults, it’s important to help children develop healthy eating habits for life. This can be done by educating them on why it’s not beneficial to eat too many lollies, chips and chocolates. We also need to show them that we practice a healthy diet by eating plenty of fruits, vegetables and wholegrains with meals or as snacks. Keeping fresh fruit on the bench or table, trying new foods yourself and carry a bottle of water around.
