Model UN Conference

Our students participated in the Model UN last month.  The topic was World Hunger with around 30 countries in attendance. Glen Eira represented Vanuatu, Mexico and Ethiopia. We started the day off with our positional statements (our views and position on the topic).

After the statements, we moved onto the fun part; the caucus session. The floor was open to all delegates to stand up and address the room. You could make a statement, direct a question at a specific country, or answer one that someone else had asked. There were also a few periods of unmoderated caucus, where everyone moved around the room, to talk to individuals and try to get countries to sign an amendment with you.

At the end of the day, all the countries voted and passed a new resolution.

It was fascinating to be a part of the roleplay, and to see how the delegates took on the views of their countries.

The whole experience was extremely interesting and I learnt a lot about how the United Nations works.
