Instrumental Music Program

Instrumental lessons at GEC are going extremely well -  wind, strings, drums, voice, guitar and piano. Students' levels range from beginner to intermediate and advanced. Some students are studying at the AMEB grade six level, and we have others at even higher levels. I asked some questions about our music program to Adam Wilson - one of our Year 7 beginner saxophone students:

Question: What do you like about learning music at GEC?

Learning saxophone at GEC has opened up many different opportunities for me such as joining the school band.

Question: Are you glad that you don’t have to buy a new instrument to start learning at GEC?

I was extremely happy that I had the option to rent the saxophone instead of buying a whole new one.

Question: What are the benefits of learning music at GEC?

My teacher encourages me to practise and I have a great learning experience as well as being able to take home my instrument to practise.

One of our ensembles at GEC is the wind and percussion ensemble comprising students from Years 7 to 10. This ensemble rehearses every Monday morning at 8:00am under the direction of Mr Voogd and Mr Dipnall. The ensemble consists of saxophones, clarinet, flutes, drumkit, keyboard and bass guitar. Popular music and movie themes are currently being rehearsed.

Please note we are all getting ready for our presentation of music items at our forthcoming evening GEC Gala Concert at 6:30pm Monday 24th July. Please store this date in your calendar. We aim to present a very interesting concert.
