From the College Captains
The sports and athletics scene at GEC continues to thrive with the athletics carnival in term 2. It was great to see everyone’s house spirit in their eager participation and incredible physical feats. A best costume competition was also run within the Year 12 cohort, where we saw a variety of funky outfits from cowboys and aliens to dinosaurs and gorillas.
Congratulations to Khang Nguyen for winning the best costume dressed as an inflatable koala! Some of the Year 12 cohort found their emotions to be bittersweet as they were experiencing their last house event. We will never forget about the fellowship and fun we all shared with our housemates and friends.
The biggest lunchtime sports event in years has also sprung into action, with the futsal tournament being a huge success. Fierce competition spreads inside the gymnasium every time a game is played, with friendly competition being seen throughout all year levels.
This term has been a stressful one for our Year 12s, with mid-year exams coming and the GAT. I’m sure everyone is eager for these to be over so that the holidays can begin! In terms of what’s in store for the future, the timetable for end-of-year exams has finally been released with the very first exam on 2nd October and the final exam on 15th November.
To celebrate our final year at GEC a special Year 12 dodgeball game has been organised for the last day at school along with the highly anticipated trip to Funfields! Although, for the time being, the Year 12s have been making the VCE Centre their own, continuously adding to the photo wall and finally getting a new toastie maker!
Next term holds many exciting events for students. Once the winners of the futsal tournament are crowned (and many debates are settled), students can keep an eye out for sign-ups to the netball tournament. We encourage participation from students in all year levels regardless of skills, new players are welcomed. Additionally, interschool sports sign-ups will be sent out via email with a variety of activities being available for Year 7-10 students.
Term 3 also brings the school production of Matilda. Backstage crew and on stage performers look forward to welcoming supporters into the PAC in Week 7 to show off the hard work they’ve been putting into the show.
