National Simultaneous Storytime

Last week, on Monday, 22 May, every class that came to the library celebrated National Simultaneous Storytime.

The concept of NSS is that each year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes and other places around the country. This same book will be shared with over 2 million other children around Australia.  The aim of NSS is to bring everyone together by sharing the value, fun and love of reading.

The book shared this year was called ‘The Speedy Sloth’ written by Rebecca Young and illustrated by Heath Mackenzie.  This is a story about a sloth that loves to run around FAST.  She enters a race and even though the other sloths say she cannot do it, she doesn’t care and gives it her best shot, learning that she is a winner, because she gave it a go and did not give up.

While the event officially occurred on Wednesday, 24th May, we were able to celebrate early and still be included in the count.
