Yarning Circle News
Over the last fortnight the indigenous community has had significant dates to recognise and celebrate. Week 5 saw Australia, Ballarat North Primary and the yarning circle recognise the National Sorry Day. National Sorry Day remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’. Additionally in week 5 the students created invitations to take home to their families. The invitations students created will offer the families of our Yarning Group to attend the last session of term and view the exciting work our students are part of.
Week 6 saw the Yarning Group celebrating and acknowledging Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. For Reconciliation Week the students did a range of activities to learning about their history. The students also had conversations around the significance of the week and any questions they may have had.
