Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.

Mothers’ Day Afternoon Tea

What a wonderful afternoon we all had on Monday. It was so great to see so many Mothers and special friends in attendance to enjoy some freshly baked goods from the students, a warm drink and a catch up. The weather turned it on for us, meaning we were able to include some outdoor activities along with our indoor ones. The highlight of the afternoon had to be the big game of “Star Wars'' on the oval, with a special mention to all the Mums who joined in. There were even a few opposing teams to their children, with it getting rather competitive!

Thanks again to everyone who was involved. This has become somewhat of a tradition over the last few years, and we love creating opportunities to celebrate the important people in our students' lives. What a great place Scotsburn is to be!

Scotsburn Kitchen Official Opening

After 18 months of planning, funding and installation, we now have our brand new fully functioning kitchen at the Scotsburn Campus. To celebrate this, we are going to hold our official grand opening, this Friday 19th May at 1pm. This will replace our Scotsburn Assembly for the day.

In attendance we will have Bernie, two Community Bank Buninyong directors, Michael Anderson who was our contracted joiner, as well as a few other members of the community. We will have our students cooking up a storm as part of our Family Group program, then acting as waiters for our guests.

A major part of getting this kitchen project up and running, was the connection to and involvement from the community. We are really hopeful that we can get as many parents and members of the community to the opening, to really celebrate this as a genuine community facility. Please spread the word and put the date in your calendar!

SC1 Learning Snapshot

SC1 students had a fabulous time at the Buninyong Kindergarten last week as part of our school transition program. It was wonderful to see and hear the excitement as students played with the kindergarten students as shared their experiences of school. We look forward to having the Buninyong Kindergarten visit us later in the term.

In Writing, we have been continuing on with our writing cycle of ‘Procedure texts’. We have been learning how to write a sequential writing piece that informs the audience about how to do or make something. Last week students worked on the steps needed to get dressed for school!

In Maths, we have been learning about addition and using strategies such as counting on, friends of 10, and building to ten to help us solve sums. We are exploring number lines, tens frames, and written addition sentences as part of our focus.

Prep Students - A reminder to Prep families to please return their school nurse forms by the end of the week. The school nurse will be visiting next term. If the documents are not handed in by the end of the week you will not be able to utilise this organisation.

We hope everyone had a lovely Mother’s Day and for those of you who were able to attend our afternoon tea, we hope you had a fantastic time.

Thanks,

Ana and Kirsty.

SC2 Learning Snapshot

Throughout last week, students in SC2 began planning their latest narratives. Students have been using their recent Writer’s Notebook entries as inspiration from characters that they have created, settings that they have created and problems that their characters may face.

Students did a great job in rounding off their money unit, which concluded on Friday. It was also wonderful to see students interacting and having a great time with their mothers on Monday afternoon.

Have an awesome week,

Mitch

SC3 Learning Snapshot

This week in SC3, students are coming to the completion phase of some important units of work as well as undertaking some important mid-year assessments, prior to the reporting period. I have been so impressed with the way that the students have approached their learning during this time, giving their absolute best at all times.

An absolute highlight of last week was our end of unit Addition and Subtraction test in maths. As part of these assessments, students utilise Proficiency Scales to determine areas that they are proficient in as well as chart their growth over a period of time. Students have been given a great deal of ownership and independence with these, and the sheer joy and pride that students had when they could identify the new learning that they had achieved was inspiring and a joy to witness.

In Writing this week, students are putting the finishing touches on their Poetry Slam presentations, which we will love to share next week!

SC1 Japanese Self-introductions - Updated Edit

It was great to welcome Noriko Sensei back last Wednesday, and we were able to complete our coaching process for our students’ Japanese self-introductions. Please enjoy the video here:

A big Arigatou Gozaimasu (thank-you very much) to のりこ せんせい (Noriko Sensei) for her help!

SC3 Art- Painting Scotsburn

SC3 students are learning about impressionist and post-impressionist painting styles this term, and are currently beginning some landscapes depicting our beautiful Scotsburn area. If you have any favourite photographs of Mt Buninyong from your property we would love you to share them with us for inspiration! Please email them to Mrs. Morgan if you would love to potentially have your own view made into a gorgeous impressionist painting 🙂
