Meet Practice Principal and Senior Occupational Therapist - Carissa Bernal Carrillo (ESA Springfield)

Carissa graduated from James Cook University in 2007. 

 

Carissa worked for Queensland Health for seven years after graduating as an Occupational Therapist, where she saw patients with developmental, neurological and physical conditions. Her work with Queensland Health involved working in the Cerebral Palsy health role where she was responsible for liaising with specialist teams in Brisbane after children underwent therapies such as Botulinum Toxin Injections for casting,  and she also provided therapy and aids/equipment prescriptions. During this time Carissa also worked in the ADOS team for early identification and assessment of children with suspected Autism Spectrum Disorders.

 

Since relocating to Brisbane, Carissa has worked in a community paediatrics team and in a hospital setting in senior OT and Team Leader roles, gaining additional experience in neurological and physical impairments.

 

In addition to her Occupational Therapy qualification, Carissa holds a Masters Degree in Neurological Occupational Therapy and has completed her Early Start Denver Model for Early Intervention training.

 

Carissa enjoys working with children and their families to identify their goals and assist their child to reach their full potential in a fun and supported environment.
